When Men Become Truly Free – Romanian Translation

This video is called

“Cand oamenii devin cu adevarat liberi”

made by YouTube user Starea NATIUNII using the soundtrack from the original video made by Charlie Veitch of The Love Police. It can also be found on their website.

They have translated my poem “When Men Become Truly Free” into ROMANIAN and subtitled it while using their own homegrown imagery to show their plight in Romainia.

That I know of it has now been translated into Bulgarian, Spanish, German, Slovak, Romanian and possibly Flemish. So if anyone has found any other versions please message me with a link.

I’m still waiting to see could any of my friends do a good translation into Irish?

The translation is below the video for those who can read it.

Vine o vreme in viata oamenilor
Cand nemilosii si nebunii criminali
Care-i conduc pe cei multi
Pentru propriul castig
Fac greseala fatala
De a se bucura prea mult
De distractia lor bolnava.
Si duc prea departe nevoia lor
De ai calca in picioare pe altii
Distrugand orice urma de viata in siguranta
Si luand absolut toate libertatile
Furand ultimele bunuri
Ca oamenii nici sa nu poata avea grija de semenii lor
Amutind vocile lor cu legi corupte
Infrangandu-i cu o guvernare in forta
Unde nu exista dreptate pentru cei inselati
Si oamenii nu mai au la cine sa apeleze
Cand acest joc nebun
este dus asa de departe
Vine o vreme cand
oamenii nu mai au ce pierde.
Acesta este momentul
in care mintile oamenilor sunt eliberate.
Acesta este momentul
in care omul scapa de frica de moarte.
Acesta este momentul
in care omul devine invincibil.
Devine liber sa faca tot ce vrea
Fara teama pentru viata sa
sau pentru viitor.
Va lua in maini destinul
Departe de mainile insangerate ale celor fara suflet
Toate actiunile le va face hotarat
Cu increderea ca trebuie sa faca ceva
Pentru ca nu are viitor
Si cu atat mai marcata
va fi fapta sa.
Caci fiind pus in fata cu exterminarea
ajunge in deplinatatea puterii
[ .. complet imputernicit .. ]
Si este arma cea mai puternica
[ .. invincibila .. ]

London Student Protest

In this video by YouTube user underpalmtrees, the soundtrack from Charlie Veitch’s original video for When Men Become Truly Free has been used as backing for footage of the student protests in London, in particular the storming of the Conservative Party Headquarters

One thing that amazed me about all of this was that when one generation stood up against those in power who have impoverished all of society, the older generations, who are suffering even more, still spoke against their actions and offered no support.

Divide and conquer is how “authority” has held it’s position of power for millennia. Set one group against another and the power structure is safe. It is a shame people haven’t learned the lessons of history.

When Men Become Truly Free – Slovak Translation

“Keď sa ľudia stanú skutočne slobodnými”

made by YouTube user Snakecharmeeer using the original video made by of SENTIENTMIND.

When Men Become Truly Free – Spanish Translation

This video is called

“Cuando los hombres sean verdaderamente libres”

made by YouTube user jagzam using the original video made by Charlie Veitch of The Love Police.

They have translated my poem “When Men Become Truly Free” into SPANISH and subtitled it for the Spanish speaking audience. So now the poem has been translated into Bulgarian, Spanish and German and I have heard requests of other translations incluing Flemish. As yet however I haven’t managed to track down those re-workings.

I wonder could any of my friends do a good translation into Irish?

I am happy to see it going Spanish it is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world

Video for At Land’s End

This is a video I put together myself in my own amateurish way. It was originally an audio only reading I did for a close friend who liked to use poetry readings in her yoga classes. I thought it would be more interesting to see how it felt with some images of the beach and the sounds of the shoreline where I live

I don’t think they’ll be asking me to do Jackanory any time soon, but I hope you can enjoy this one too

Music Video of my poem by Jason (Sentientmind)

This is a music video created by Australian videographer Jason, YouTube user SENTIENTMIND, using Des Brittain’s original reading.

I was quite blown away by the incredible 3D graphics he has produced for this video, and Des’ reading works really well with the backing track chosen by Jason. The XX’s “Intro”.

I was delighted to see this kind of imagination used with such great results

When Men Become Truly Free – Bulgarian Translation

This is a video made by YouTube user bisserka using the original video made by Charlie Veitch of The Love Police.

She has translated the poem “When Men Become Truly Free” into Bulgarian and subtitled it for the Bulgarian audience. So far I have had the poem kindly translated into German at the request of a friend of Des and have heard requests of other translations. As yet however I haven’t managed to track down those re-workings.

All in all I am delighted to see it going worldwide as the message of the poem seems to resonate with the way people are feeling about the world today and who is controlling it

Video by Charlie Veitch of the Love Police

This is a video made by Charlie Veitch who runs a videographic street action web group called The Love Police and published all their film on his YouTube channel cveitch.

Charlie liked Des’s reading of “When Men Become Truly Free” and put it to film with exerpts from a Downing Street protest and a montage of footage from the Vietnam war era. All backed up using Hans Zimmer’s new music “Time” from the new film “Inception”.

Altogether it makes a very powerful piece of film and the reaction to it has been great. Posted just over a week ago it has had around 13,000 hits already and has been copied around the internet into other video hosting sites and blogs. It has also sparked quite a few debates in discussion forums

Please let me know what you think of it

Reading by Des Brittain

This is a reading by Des Brittain, of “When Men Become Truly Free”. I asked Des if he would read one of my poems after seeing some of his other videos on his YouTube channel as Des’ voice lends itself really well to narration
